Vintage Fashion: Early 20th Century (1900-1935)
Jacques Doucet was commissioned to “translate” the feeling of Robert de Montesquiou’s poem “Les Hortenses Bleues” (The Blue Hydrangeas) into an evening gown. Between 1897 & 1906 he made this dress. Wide, square neckline, short wide sleeves, and embroidery on front and back of the bodice and front of the skirt. Silk satin and tulle with silver paillettes, embossed cabochons, and silk chenille and silver lamé and thread embroidery. Musée Galliera, Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris
