Give you the proper change? No problem!

This is a pretty mundane little story, but maybe some of you retail folk out there can relate! Mostly just wanted a place to vent about this daily issue that I have with essentially every other customer that comes into my store. I’m writing this from work, so sorry for mobile formatting!

Now… onto our little tale.

For a bit of not-super-important background, my store’s sales are mostly made up of small, daily-purchased items. While days of big sales are usually reliant on our other big-ticket items, the majority of customers come in for the same, small thing every day. We’re in a fairly low-income area, so we get the daily set of prime r/tooktoomuch examples, but most of our customers are perfectly nice regulars. However, it seems like essentially anybody who isn’t already a regular here has very little understanding of reality—what’s obstructing that reality is up for debate on a person-to-person basis. We’re trained to be sales people, but not aggressive ones—just always be helpful, and try to give people recommendations on items that you like, or point out cool new products that just hit the shelves. Otherwise, know when to back off.
