Not my own experience, but a friend. Not hearsay; his storry was first hand.
Somewhere around the turn of the century one of our major isps had a campaign claiming they could deliver “much faster internett!”. As this was one of the first major rollouts of DSL- technology in the Norwegian market it wasn’t just marketing bullshit : A 2Mb/s ADSL line was no slouch in ~Y2K, especially when the by then just recently privatised national telecom company had spent 5 years agressively pushing 128kb/s ISDN as a future proof solution.
