I live in the Europan North where we celebrate that some 2000 years old winemaker learned to fly. People here are so happy he died that we get a day off every year.
Years back, in my job I was sent to a muslim country for a few weeks, and the sky-fly-day was not a day off there. I had every intention to work that day anyway, I just wanted the extra overtime hours. My boss checked with HR (big company, there are no assholes in this story!) and said sorry, no overtime compensation as the local work hours apply.
