TL;DR: I tricked my father into buying a scratching post for my cat by tallying up the prices of the materials for his homemade scratching post and comparing it to a nice scratching post.

I have an adoring cat named Minnie. And like most people owned by cats, I try to ensure that Minnie has everything she will ever need. One of said things is a scratching post so she doesn’t tear up the carpet in our apartment. Unfortunately, the one she has now has been scratched down to the wood.
