Vintage Fashion: 19th Century Dress, possibly American, ca. 1866-68. Four pieces: 2 bodices, skirt, and belt. Magenta silk satin with black silk satin & black cotton lace. Trimmed in the fashionable apron style, skirt has 9 tapered pieces at front & sides and one straight length at back, with deep pleating at back waist that flows into full train. Shown here is the high-necked bodice for formal daytime wear. It also has lower-cut evening bodice. Philadelphia Museum of Art
