Sunday Wax!
Small jam jar candles are not my usual picks from BBW, but I picked up this little jar of Red Velvet Cupcake in the US last year, when I was running out of luggage space.
When I first smelt them cold, I thought I could never stand red velvet candles. On cold sniff, the smell is cloying and unnatural. But I’ve learnt never to judge wax until they are burnt or melted.
I have burnt both Yankee and BBW Red Velvets, and I like both. The hint of cocoa is more obvious in the BBW, and the buttery frosting is more apparent in the Yankee. On hot throw, they just fill the room with the smell of warm, buttery, freshly-baked and frosted cake. It really only smells “right” when it’s warm, but it’s also an acquired taste.
This small jam jar can hardly fill up a small room, but it’s good if you want the scent somewhere close but don’t want a heavy red velvet smell throughout your entire house.
