Not particularly malicious, but I did comply.

I used to own a Jeep CJ-7 that had a removable soft top and doors. I never had a problem until one year when I went for my annual inspection

(At that time New Jersey required an annual safety inspection of all automobiles. You had to take it to a Division of Motor Vehicles site and wait on line. After they checked your paperwork, you had to turn the car over to an attendant. He’d verify that your lights, wipers and horn worked, then drive a few feet and slam on the brakes. They had some device that could determine if all your brakes worked. Assuming everything was OK, you got a nice sticker for your windshield that said you were good for another year. But if anything was wrong, like a burned out tail light, or faulty brakes, you got a bright red sticker. Once you got the problem fixed, you had to go back to the inspection station and wait on line again. Fortunately the second time around they just checked the failing component.)
